We had more outdoor maths fun today, on our last day of term, using positional language to move our bodies, and hoops, in relation to each other. We were on, over, under, beside, behind, above, below, on, in and even moving through our hoops! Afterwards, the children enjoyed exploring with the hoops and came up with so many different things to do with them!
To further explore "groups of" , we held Kindy boot camp yesterday where we did exercises in sets, or groups. It was a lot of fun and we all had a great work out whilst learning! Kindergarten students have been busy consolidating their understanding of arrays. This week, to coincide with fruit and vegetable month, we planted a vegetable garden inside our classroom (just pretend!), designed our own gardens on paper, then planted gardens on sand trays using paddlepop sticks. The children were very particular in making sure their vegetables were all in a row! Kindergarten have been busy consolidating their understanding of arrays. This week, in conjunction with fruit and vege month, we planted a vegetable garden in the middle of the classroom, designed our own gardens on paper, then made them in sand trays out of paddle pop sticks. The children had a wonderful time and were very particular in making sure their vegetables were in rows!
We had fun in our lesson on 'Mass' today. We made play dough monsters and then compared the mass of our monster with another monster. Some monsters were long and thin, others were bumpy, some were spiky and some had lots of eyes! We hefted our monsters and then used the equal arm balance to check which was the heavier of the two monsters. We changed the shape of our monsters and re-hefted, then checked, and came to the conclusion that mass stays the same, no matter what the shape! Kindergarten was fortunate to be hosted by 3L for some 'Games of Yester-year' during PMP time last week. The year three students came up with a variety of games that were played and enjoyed in years gone by. These included leapfrog, elastics, fly, 3-legged races, hoop play and skipping. They were wonderful tutors, explaining and encouraging our children in a supportive and positive way. We all had a great time together. Thank you 3L! Congratulations to our wonderful award winners in week 7. There will be no assembly on the 8th of September due to the marimbas being in the hall. These award winners will receive their silver awards at the assembly next week, on Thursday the 15th of September.
